Nothing like hot dogs with mayonnaise and salsa to top off a great concert

The night before leaving for Iguazú, my Catalán friends (Meri, Lourdes, Lluis and Joan) and I went to see Marlango, a Spanish rock band that primarily sings in English.  It was part of the Ciudad Emergente Festival to promote music in all of its forms around the city.  The Buenos Aires government really does an incredible job of sponsoring various festivals throughout the year and providing gorgeous venues.  This concert was held in an outdoor plaza of the Centro Cultural Recoleta (where I had seen Fuerza Bruta).  With large Greek goddess statues and palm trees bordering the plaza, it overlooks the Plaza Francia and extends to the beautiful night sky.  Even as the temperatures had started to drop, it was still refreshing to be able to go to an outdoor concert.

The highlight for me was when Fito Paez, a legendary Argentine singer, joined the band for a few songs…while playing his pink keyboard.  I had tried to see him at a few other concerts during the bicentennial, but wasn’t able to make them.

After the concert, we met up with some people that Meri had connected with through Couchsurfing.  Most of them were Argentine, and as we were all standing around to think of an economical place to have dinner, one recommended a place close by that she knew…a panchería.  It was certainly cheap…but as I rarely eat hot dogs in the U.S., I really didn’t see the need to have one in Argentina – despite (or maybe because of) the many ingredients available to top your super pancho: various types of mayonnaise, liquid cheeses, spicy salsas, chili,…and the list went on.
