The Disneyland of Tango

WEDNESDAY 01/12/11

As a must-do in Buenos Aires, I went with Hillary and Jason to El Caminito in Boca on their last day.  I had only been once when I visited Buenos Aires in 2008.  It was just the same, if not more inundated by tourists and entertainers and waiters trying to sell their version of tango.  This is where the city was founded and where tango originated. In all reality, it is a very poor area of town with the buildings made of wood and tin and painted in different colors (originally because there wasn’t enough paint of one color to cover an entire building).  El Caminito is the 4 block area that is crowded with street cafes, tango dancers and tourist shops.
